What do you get when you combine sports, creativity, derring-do, and cool? A ‘new’ way to bring out the best in your kids – it’s called Parkour! At Star-Tastic we have recently introduced Mini Parkour classes so we can start children in this great sport from 5 years!
The sport emerged in urban environments in the 1980s, inspired by military obstacle-course training. Athletes dashed from one obstacle to another—navigating over, under, and through them—with a liberal number of jumps, flips, leaps, and rolls mixed in for good measure. These days, parkour has gone mainstream. We offer an indoor parkour gym that offers padded mats to practice moves safely.
What Kids Get from Mini Parkour
Under the watchful eye of expert coaches, parkour is safer than you might imagine. There are loads of benefits as well:
In the Mini Parkour or Beginner Parkour sessions, the coaches primarily aim to teach the very basics of movement skills involving running, jumping and vaulting. This is partnered with low-level conditioning exercises to prepare the participant for future increased-impact work alongside developmental stretching. All skills learnt and developed in class are packaged together in a fun and friendly environment with varying courses, challenges and games! We currently run classes on Fridays 5:15 pm-6:15 pm and Sundays at 11:15 am-12:15 pm at Rosebery School, in Epsom.
