An amazing weekend of Competitions!

Last weekend saw the return of competitions to Star-Tastic Gymnastics and what a weekend it was! On Saturday we held our first ever Parkour Chase Tag event. It was the brainchild of two of our coaches, Lawrence and Bam, who are both Parkour athletes to bring Parkour Chase Tag to Star-Tastic. Lawrence actually took part in a Championship event that will be televised on ESPN. At first, Club Director Stacey wasn’t sure but after seeing the event on Saturday she said it was one of the most exciting things she has seen in the gym and it will definitely be on the Competition Calendar for a long time to come! To remind you, Parkour Chase Tag is a game of cat and mouse where the chaser must catch his opponent (the runner) and tag them. This can be anywhere on the body as long as the body is tagged (clothing does not count). The chaser will have a set time to catch his opponent. What makes this interesting is they must battle it out on a Parkour course. The course will be built with multiple levels and platforms to use as an evasion for the runner to get away. Using their Parkour skills to outwit and evade their opponent. If the runner manages to evade the chaser, they must stay on for the next round to begin against a new opponent, exhaustion now being an additional obstacle they must overcome.
Saturday also saw our trampolinists competing and it was amazing to see them back in action. We were treated to a dazzling display of full twist jumps, straddle jumps, seat drops, twists, backdrops, and somersaults.

Parkour and Trampoline Medalists

Sunday we had our gymnasts competing and we had those from both open classes and those that attend our school-based classes and they were taking on the Vault and the Beam. Not only was amazing to see the gymnasts competing again but having parents back in to spectate was a joyful sight and we can not wait until our next competitions in March.

During the competitions, we were selling refreshments, had a raffle and tombola and you could even pay to go on the trampolines and this was all to raise money for Crisis at Christmas. We are so pleased to announce that we raised £ 431.35 With this money, we have managed to provide warm meals, shelter, support, and companionship at Christmas to those experiencing homelessness to 14 people.
